REVISITING PUMPKIN BEER

According to Starbucks, it’s fall.

But more important than the Pumpkin Spice Latte, my favorite Pumpkin Cider is back on the shelf. Since these awesome pumpkin beers are coming back, I figured it would be worthwhile to take a trip back to one of my favorite posts from last year — my pumpkin beer review.

Go ahead, check it out, and enjoy some pumpkin beer!

SUMMER BEERS.

It’s no secret I love beers. And, I really love seasonal beers (See all the pumpkin beers I love). I apparently missed that Spring beer selection, but trust me, I’ve got summer covered.

1)
Lime-A-Rita
Don’t let the “Bud Light” part scare you. This is actually incredibly refreshing. The cans are a little small, but with 8% alcohol, who really cares? I don’t really taste the beer part of it. Pro-Tip: Put it over ice. It tastes better. There’s also a Strawberry version that is heavenly — and I don’t even like strawberries.
RATING: 10/10. Delicious, refreshing. Perfect for sitting on the patio during the summer.
2)
Angry Orchard Apple Ginger Cider
So, this one isn’t a beer, but it has alcohol. And, maybe you can tell by my face that I wasn’t feeling this one. At all. I love Angry Orchard Cider (Or, as I call it, Angry Birds!). So, when I saw a variety pack, I immediately picked it up. I took one sip and thought, “What the hell is this?” It was terrible. Awful. So, I made my boyfriend finish it.
RATING: 0/10. Stick to the original.
3)
Leinenkugel Summer Shandy
This is beer and lemonade mixed together. What could go wrong? Nothing. I absolutely adore this beer and I’ve grabbed a few six packs after work so far. I tried it last year for the first time and I was so excited for it to return to me this summer.
RATING: 10/10. Super refreshing.
4)
Blue Moon Agave Nectar Ale

This was hyped up to me. I had a few different people tell me, “This is the best summer beer. You have to try it.” I kept forgetting to grab a summer variety pack of Blue Moon from the store, but at a recent party, I saw a bottle and grabbed it. I was so excited and when I took that first sip, my first reaction was “Oh.” It tastes just like any old boring beer. There is no sweetness like I anticipated. I couldn’t even finish it.
RATING: 1/10. Boring. Not worth the money.

I love trying new beers. What summer beers should I go out and get? Let me know in the comments.

Cheers!

LET’S TALK ABOUT BEER, BABY.

And cider too.

Here are some of the beers I’ve been drinking lately.

Left Hand Milk Stout Nitro
I first tried this beer in Philadelphia. I was at this bar and I said to the bartender, “Give me something good.” And this is what I got and I definitely was not disappointed.
This beer reminds me of a dessert. It is creamy and delicious.
I guess my only complaint is that I can only have just one at a time because it really is that creamy and rich.
Fox Barrel’s Blackberry Pear Cider
Everyone that knows me is aware of my love of cider. But, my love does not extend to pear cider. I’ve had a few terrible experiences with pear ciders and I always say, “It tastes the same going down as it does coming up.”
Now, one of my favorite pizza places – Mellow Mushroom – recently added Fox Barrel to the menu. And I was apprehensive, but this is actually really delicious. The pear isn’t overly strong. The blackberry is very sweet and it tastes like juice.

New Belgium’s Snow Day

via.

Unfortunately, this beer is seasonal. And at the bar near my house, I can’t even get it anymore. But, it’s definitely a winter favorite.
I love dark ales for winter and Snow Day does not disappoint. It has such a great flavor. I had it for the first time this winter and I cannot wait until next winter so I can drink more of it.

Any beers you’ve been loving lately? Let me know in the comments. I’d love to try them.

Pumpkin Beer Review

I can’t control myself around pumpkin flavored things. I think I might actually turn into a pumpkin this fall. So, everytime I walk through the liquor department at the grocery store, my eyes bulge out of my head and I want to buy ALL the pumpkin beers.
pumpkin beer
Here are my completely biased reviews on what I’ve tried so far…
1. Ace’s Pumpkin Cider
Technically not a beer, but delicious nonetheless. Want something that actually tastes like pumpkin without all those nutmeg and other spices? This is your drink. It’s sweet and goes down easy. I think I’ve converted most of my friends. Also, this is gluten-free. Only bad thing? It’s difficult to find. I haven’t ever been able to find it in my regular grocery store and I have to go to one particular liquor store that I know always has it in the fall. And it’s a little more expensive, but definitely worth it. 10/10.
2. Blue Moon’s Harvest Moon
This was my first ever pumpkin beer. I tried it immediately after turning 21 and I fell in love. I ran out and bought a 12-pack. It’s still delicious and I always recommend it to people. Very easy to find – I get it at both grocery stores by my house. And, the price isn’t too bad. It does not have a distinct pumpkin flavor – there’s definitely more of the spices, but it’s really good. 9/10
3. Punk’n
First off, the name is adorable and the label is really well done. Those were the first things that caught my eye. Also, this was way cheaper than Sam Adam’s pumpkin beer, so that’s why I got a 6-pack of this at the grocery store instead of trying Sam Adams. Definitely not a strong pumpkin flavor, but it’s a delicious beer nevertheless. It’s pretty dark and I really enjoy it. It’s a really good ale despite the lack of pumpkin. 8/10
4. Four Peaks’ Pumpkin Porter
This dark and delicious beer is my favorite actual pumpkin beer. However, I HATE going to Four Peaks – parking sucks and it’s humid inside (YES, I know it’s a brewery, but I just don’t like being in there). But, I always try to make it in to buy a growler of this seasonal favorite. I cannot recommend it enough. 10/10
Not a pumpkin beer, but still a fall flavor…
Harvest Moon Caramel Apple Spiced Ale
I think the problem was that my expectations were high. I love Blue Moon, so I was thinking I just got myself a new fall favorite. But alas, this was terrible. I tried pawning it off on my family and they weren’t having any of it. There’s no flavor whatsoever. I have 3 left in my fridge from the fall variety pack if anyone wants them. I don’t think I can handle drinking it again. 0/10
I definitely want to try the Sam Adams pumpkin beer this year. Any other pumpkin favorites you think I should try? Let me know.
